RULES

CRAFT |
1. Surfskis: No open cockpit kayaks. There
is no length or weight restriction on the surf-skis; both NZ Life Saving
Association regulation skis and South African Fenn-style skis are acceptable.
2. Vaa (OC1): No weight restriction. Craft
must comply with NZ outrigger rules.
All craft will undergo a safety
inspection prior to the race.

SAFETY |
:: All paddlers must carry or wear an
approved life jacket or flotation device.
:: All paddlers
must wear the high visibility race shirts provided by the race organisers.
:: In high winds
paddlers should consider attaching themselves to their craft with a leash.
:: All paddlers must submit a resume
of races entered, with distances and times where possible, to satisfy the
organisers they are capable of completing the course in a reasonable time and
in a range of sea conditions.
:: A minimum of 1 litre of fluid must
be carried, attached to the paddler or the craft.
:: All paddlers must be competent
swimmers.
:: There will be four support boats
following the race.

RACE RULES |
1. All surf-skis and outriggers
must be have been safety scrutinized before a race number is applied to the craft,
at least one hour prior to
race start. That is by 10.00am on Day 1, and by 12.00am on Day 2.
2. Race briefing will be 15 minutes
prior to race start. That is 10.45am on Day 1 and 12.45pm on Day 2.
3. Wash riding other competitors is
permitted. Riding boat and yacht wash is prohibited. Obviously, it is not
always possible to avoid every boat wash as they track across the harbour, but
as a rule avoid all boat washes that other competitors are unlikely to be able
to gain advantage from. This will generally be wash that is close to larger
vessels.
4. All motorised and sail powered
craft have the right of way. Assume they are unable to see you.
5. Any competitor or craft that
appears incapable of completing the race at any stage may be withdrawn by the
organisers, either prior to or during the race.
6. The race is officially over at 2.30pm for Day 1 and
4.30pm for Day 2. All paddlers still to complete the race must allow themselves
to be escorted back to the finish by the Safety Crew on the water. Any paddler
who pulls up onto land must make themselves visible in order to be found by the
Safety Crew.
