:: OVERVIEW 2004/2005
NUTRA-LIFE SURFSKI SERIES ::
This will be the third running of the Takapuna – based surfski series, now
sponsored for the third year by Nutra-Life Health and Fitness. The support we
get from Nutra-Life through their naming rights sponsorship is second to none,
and includes a strong presence on the beach at each race. Every paddler who has
competed in the first two series will know how good it feels to chew one of
those superb Nutra-Life Protein Bars after a tough race, followed by a glass of
Nutra-Life Restore replacement drink, all served to you by one of the friendly
and very knowledgeable Nutra-Life staff.
We are also welcoming back Fitness Life Magazine as a media sponsor who
will cover the series over the four summer issues of there fantastic fitness
magazine, while More FM have joined us as a media sponsor for the 2004-05
series. This exciting deal will see More FM playing two prerace reports
advertising the Nutra-Life Surfski Series on Tuesday night 5 till 6 pm drive
time. They will also aim to have a presence on the beach at most races. And of
course, we will welcome back many of last years prize sponsors, and introduce
some new supporters this year as well.
:: Pre-registration and the Registration Party
Race One will be a lot easier if as many paddlers pre register as
possible. Boring paddlers can achieve this by downloading the form off this website,
or picking a form up from the Takapuna Boating Club, Ferg’s Kayaks or the
Auckland Canoe Centre.
However, exciting paddlers will prefer to attend the Registration Party
at Takapuna Boating Club on Friday October 15th from 7.30pm. There
will be some finger food and music, as well as some great spot prize draws such
as new paddles and paddling kit on the night. It will be a great chance to line
up last year’s opposition for a chat and determine if you’ve done enough winter
training to give them a hiding over the summer.
:: The 2004-05 Race Timetable:
There will be 19 races again this year, with eleven races prior to
Christmas starting on Tuesday October 26th at Takapuna Beach, and
including two Sunday races at Mission Bay on the November 14th and
December 12th. There is a two week break after New Year, with the
races resuming at Takapuna on Tuesday January 18th. The last Tuesday
race is on February 22nd, with the final two races being at Mission
Bay on Sunday February 27th and March 6th. Full details in
the Race Timetable section of this site.
:: Organising team:
Sadly we have farewelled Woogie and Jodie Marsh, who were series
co-organisers last summer. Woogie has landed the dream job as Kanuculture’s pro
athlete/promoter, with the Aussie paddle-wear manufacturer luring the two of
them and baby Taj over to the Sunshine Coast. So Darcy Price, as Race
Organiser, will head this year’s team, with assistance from Tracy Wilson and
Paul Wilford to put each race together. Darrel Forsyth will be taking over the
surfski.co.nz and Nutra-Life Surfski Series website from Mike Podesta, and is
keen to shape the site into a resource that is very responsive to the needs of
local surfski paddlers. We will also have an official Race Secretary, with
Massey Sports Management student Leon Marsh looking after the race night
logistics from registration through to the processing of the results.
So paddlers in the 2004-05 Nutra-Life Surfski Series can look forward to
a bigger, better and more finely tuned set of races – lets just hope we get
some great weather and exciting sea conditions.
